Rated 4 out of 5 by sswanson from Neat Idea, Nice lines Once it was installed I really liked the look of the pop out outlet. THe installation was a tad trickier than the usual standard outlet which is to be expected but I youtubed it and got through it without an electrician. The lines of the outlet and cover are great and the pop out seemes to work well. My only critique is that my different sized plugs don’t all work with it. I needed to plug in an extension cord to run a shop vac where a leak had happened and it didn’t pop out far enough to accomodate. Sophisticated Design and Three Plugs The Pop-Out outlet provides a modern addition to your walls, avoiding those unsightly traditional outlets. Thus far, we have had no issues and look forward to installing more throughout the house. Previously, we were maxxed out on the plugs in the outlet, and now we have an additional plug that we have been using.

The wine you most enjoy is the best wine in the world, as far as you should be concerned. That means proper storage, proper aeration, and the right wine glass used to serve and enjoy it. Human beings have been making and enjoying wine since the stone age. Or the New Stone Age era, to be specific, better known as the neolithic period by scholars and archeologists.
Tim Parker, Iittala’s UK agent, says: “So many household items that were designed in the Sixties have ended up in museums, and while the term ‘design classic’ is often bandied about, this is one.
Terms and Conditions Royal Doulton is a classic English brand name in tableware and ceramics with a pedigree dating back to , when John Doulton used his life’s savings to launch a partnership with Martha Jones and John Watts at a stoneware factory in Lambeth, London. Today, Royal Doulton is a world-class brand in quintessential British tableware, collectable figurines, crystal, glass and giftware.
Yet it had truly down to earth origins. Thanks to stoneware, the business that subsequently focused on the Doulton family name took full advantage of the revolution in sanitation during the reign of Queen Victoria It established the world’s first stoneware pipe factory and went on to become Britain’s top Victorian manufacturer of water and drain pipes. John worked with his son Henry to grow the business, and their portfolio soon extended to artistic pottery, ultimately embracing ornamental, commemorative, and tableware products.
Indeed, Doulton set the pace in new art schools and reaped the rewards at exhibitions. By , Henry had launched the Lambeth Studio with local designers and artists who experimented with a variety of materials and glazes in an industrial setting. Today their pioneering work commands increasingly high prices.

Attention also had to be paid to traffic and car parking issues as well as the urban fabric. The period when the design was being carried out coincided with a steep increase in the numbers of cars and other motor vehicles on the roads and this can be seen in the basic solution to the problem, drawn up by Aalto. The Plan for Helsinki City Centre was considerably larger in scale than plans for other Finnish cities.
As it concerned the capital, the Helsinki plan was also of greater importance to Aalto. In the design, the main traffic artery coming into Helsinki was located along the existing railway line, with cars driving along an elevated roadway above the tracks. In the plan, Finlandia Hall was sited in the row of cultural buildings at the junction of Hesperian puisto Hesperia Park and the square, thus being the cultural building nearest the city centre.
Aalto compared the white cultural buildings reflected in the water to Venetian palaces.

Due to the lack of skilled glassblowers in Finland the first 17 glassblowers came from the Limmared glassworks in Sweden. They along with the local Swedish glassblower Johan Fredrik Gauffin, who was part owner, made the first glass objects on November 24, In February Abrahamsson left the loss-making Iittala glassworks and Anders Andersson the chairman of the board took over the directorship of the Iittala glassworks. It was during his tenure that the Iittala glassworks enjoyed its first boom.

But doing this would mean losing sight of the finer nuances of the Finnish design legacy — not to mention its formidable rise in its own right. While we may take the streamlined modernism of dinnerware design for granted these days, early 20th century dinnerware was often overwrought with ornate detailing. It was thanks to the disruptive rise of modernism that Finnish and broader Scandinavian design were recognised on a global stage, giving Iittala the chance to flex its progressive muscle.
Their belief that objects should be designed with thought and available to all is indicative of Scandinavian design as we now know it. Alvar Aalto and Kaj Franck spurred a democratisation of design that opened global doors for Scandinavian design, and has allowed other Finnish designers Artek , Harri Koskinen , and Ilmari Tapiovaara to flourish.
Renowned for the way it merges heritage craft with timeless aesthetics, Iittala is as much about longevity as it is about looks. Their most iconic piece, the designed Alvar Aalto vase — all undulating curves and seamless refinement — is still mouth blown today at the Iittala factory. Each Iittala piece is a study in craft technique as well as function. But these items are not simply designed to be collected:
